there's a certain sense of urgency and adventure
when performing mundane tasks
like grocery shopping or going to the post office
in a country that can't understand you.
i'm learning to talk with my hands, with my arms, with my
facial expressions, eye brow wiggles, rather than with words.
i'm making my "i'm lost face again"
at strangers who stop and point frantically and helplessly
at strangers who stop and point frantically and helplessly
in several different directions
grunting with a half-smile glued in the space
grunting with a half-smile glued in the space
between their cheeks.

I'M AN AMERICAN PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO GET TO YOUR BED?
